We support exchanges and development among tanka poets across borders.
NEWS
,INTERNATIONAL TANKA #20 will be issued on November 1, 2026. (Updated Sept. 1, 2026)

About
INTERNATIONAL TANKA SOCIETY publishes
INTERNATIONAL TANKA, successor to THE TANKA JOURNAL (1992~2017), twice a year.
Our purpose is to advance the appreciation and practice of tanka (waka), Japanese traditional poetry with a fixed-form having more than 1,300 years of history, throughout the world. To this end, we provide a common platform to publish tanka in various languages as well as Japanese and wish to deepen mutual human understanding beyond borders by placing them in one journal.
sSince 2018, we have been handling the reception for the foreign language section of the Mt.Fuji Grand Prix.
In 2026, however, the submissions are suspended due to the reorganaization of the Grand Prix secretaria. It will reopen in 2027.
