About
INTERNATIONAL TANKA SOCIETY publishes
INTERNATIONAL TANKA, successor to THE TANKA JOURNAL (1992~2017), twice a year.
Our purpose is to advance the appreciation and practice of tanka (waka), Japanese traditional poetry with a fixed-form having more than 1,300 years of history, throughout the world. To this end, we provide a common platform to publish tanka in various languages as well as Japanese and wish to deepen mutual human understanding beyond borders by placing them in one journal.
Since 2018, we have been handling the reception for the Mt.Fuji Grand Prix. But in 2026, the submissions are suspended due to the reorganization of the Grand Prix secretariat. We plan to resume accepting submissions in 2027.
